MUSIC FOR YOUTH FREQUENCIES CREATIVE CAREERS PROGRAMME 2026
You’ll work alongside industry professionals and the Music for Youth team, gaining hands-on experience at leading Birmingham venues including Symphony Hall and CBSO Centre.
Participants are paid at National Living Wage (ages 21–25) or National Minimum Wage (ages 18–20).

WHAT ROLES ARE AVAILABLE
On Stage Roles
Young Presenters
Support live events through presenting, announcements and audience engagement
Develop confidence in public speaking and live event presentation
Network with artists, performers and industry professionals
Stage Crew
Support stage set-ups, changeovers and technical equipment during live performances
Develop practical backstage and live production experience

WHO CAN APPLY?
Anyone aged 18–25 living in the UK with a passion for music and the creative industries.
Previous experience is welcome but not essential — enthusiasm, transferable skills, and motivation matter most.

ROLE DESCRIPTIONS

We are seeking candidates with an interest in creating engaging social media content and a good understanding of platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook.
Successful candidates will have strong editing skills and enjoy creating video and photo content. Responsibilities include creating engaging video content, monitoring Music for Youth and Frequencies social media channels and supporting audience engagement.
The role will also involve speaking with participants and audiences to gather feedback, conduct short interviews and support reporting activity. At events, assistants will work closely with the wider marketing team to help display branding and merchandise, including pull-up banners and bunting.
This role is particularly suitable for candidates with experience in content creation and social media. Successful applicants will receive mentoring and guidance from the marketing team while delivering content briefs.

The ideal candidate will be confident communicating with a wide range of people and stakeholders from across the country. They will have excellent attention to detail, strong timekeeping skills and a proactive approach to ensuring the smooth flow of groups arrival, check in, and access to the auditorium / their warm up room.
Responsibilities include welcoming participants and group leaders, distributing performer wristbands, and providing information about the day’s schedule, performances, workshops and activities. The successful candidate will also liaise with the Venue Manager, reporting any timing, technical or production issues as they arise.
Previous experience working at events is desirable.

The ideal candidate will have excellent organisational skills, attention to detail and the confidence to communicate clearly with performers, venue staff and stakeholders. They will work collaboratively with our Stage Managers and Venue Manager to ensure performances run smoothly and on schedule.
Responsibilities include collecting groups from their warm up rooms, directing them to the backstage area, ensuring they’ve met the relevant personnel backstage, while monitoring timings and reporting any technical or production issues to the Venue Manager.
Previous experience working at events is desirable.

We are seeking enthusiastic and proactive individuals to support the Music for Youth Programmes Team during the National Festival. Candidates should have a welcoming attitude, work well collaboratively and feel confident directing large groups around the venue.
Responsibilities include supporting performers and audiences, helping groups locate their allocated seating, warm-up areas, dressing rooms and accessible facilities, and assisting the wider production team where needed.
Previous experience is not essential; however, successful candidates must be willing to learn, adaptable and proactive.

Working alongside our professional stage management team, Stage Assistants will support the professional set-up and operation of technical and musical equipment, including microphones, stands, backline and orchestral percussion.
Responsibilities include assisting with lighting, sound and stage equipment before performances, coordinating with production staff and stage managers to ensure equipment is in the correct place at the right time, supporting performers and supporting young people with access requirements where necessary.
Successful candidates will demonstrate attention to detail, professionalism and the ability to follow safety procedures carefully.
Previous experience is not essential; however, successful candidates must be willing to learn, adaptable and proactive. Please note that this is a physical role; candidates will be required to move heavy equipment and will spend a large proportion of the day on their feet.

We are seeking the next generation of young presenters to join us at our National Festival. Ideal candidates will be confident reading cue cards and passionate about public speaking, acting or presenting. Young Presenters will help inform audiences and performers about the programme, sponsors and activities taking place throughout the National Festival.
This opportunity is ideal for young people aged 18-25 who are studying performing arts, acting or broadcasting and are looking to develop early career experience in presenting and comparing. Participants will gain valuable experience presenting in front of large audiences while receiving guidance from industry professionals.
