MFY x International Youth Day 2020: Amplifying Youth Voice

In the spirit of this year’s theme for International Youth Day – Youth Engagement for Global Action – we wanted to offer the MFY community a chance to have their say on this important day, as we celebrate the voices and experiences of young people worldwide.

As a national arts charity, Music for Youth seeks to increase and encourage youth engagement on a daily basis: giving young people an opportunity to get involved, influencing decision making and having their say in regards to subject that matter to them. We are passionate about drawing attention to globally recognised celebratory youth events, such as #IYD2020, which shed slight on the importance of educating the public on issues concerning young people. Along with providing resources and opportunities for young musicians, we do our best to celebrate their achievements at every opportunity.

There are now more young people in the world than ever before. For this reason, it has never been more important to facilitate and promote participation from young people. As a youth charity, we aim to provide a safe and inclusive space to voice thoughts, feelings and concerns.

Music By, With and For Youth

As an organisation working with young people, we believe discussions led by youth, for youth are truly invaluable and are deserving of airtime on mainstream, national platforms. We are eager to use our platform to facilitate conversations that will benefit aspiring young musicians and those who take comfort in creative expression.

Back in July, as part of our digital festival, ELEVATE, we organised a series of virtual discussions for young people in different parts of the UK. Together, these individuals lent their voices to a discussion that touched on music in relation to formal education, performance opportunities, lockdown mental health and general wellbeing. You can catch both episodes of Your Music, Your Voice on the Music for Youth YouTube channel now…
