MFY REMIX - Meet The Young Reporters

We love to have young people work with us on our festivals and events. It gives us the opportunity to learn from the young people and gives them the opportunity for some work experience with a national charity. All of our Young Reporters are paid for their work. If you are a young person aged between 18-21 who would like to work with us on an event, please get in touch with Claire by emailing claire@mfy.org.uk

Social Media Reporter

William (Billy) Baker

Age: 20 years old

Where are you from? Northampton, studying in Manchester

Current favourite song? Hard to pick a single out but I rate the 2021 album 'Sour' by Olivia Rodrigo

What does Music For Youth mean to you? For me, Music For Youth is a space where young people, from all backgrounds, come together and create shared musical experiences. Without MFY, many young people would be missing out on the chance to develop not only their musical skills, but also lifelong friendships and connections.’

If you were to take part in MFY Remix 2021, what would you do?  If I were to enter the festival, I would probably perform some kind of jazz/modern/classical piano crossover remix piece.

Writer-Reporter

Meg Davies

Age: 21

Where are you from? Northampton, but currently studying in Cardiff

What’s your current favourite song? Right now, Amber Mark’s cover of Nirvana’s Heart Shaped Box is on repeat, so groovy.

What does MFY mean to you? I was given amazing opportunities whilst participating in MFY through my music service every year. The festival helped me achieve one of my lifelong dreams, playing on the Royal Albert Hall stage…twice!

If you were to take part in MFY Remix 2021, what would you do? I would love to combine two pieces- one focusing on negativity but then moving into a piece about hope, to show 2021 will not be just doom and gloom!

Audio Visual Reporter

Deanna Smith

Age: 19

Where are you from? I am from Oxfordshire

What’s your current favourite song? I would have to say my favourite song at the moment is either between Ed Sheeran’s Bad Habits or Gabby Barrett’s I Hope.

What does MFY mean to you? Music For Youth Festival is something which is absolutely incredible in letting young people with musical talents showcase them to a wider audience, it also helps with confidence building which is something people can use in their day to day lives.

If you were to take part in MFY Remix 2021, what would you do? If I were to create music for the MFY theme this year of 'remix' I think I would like to mix different genres together to see what different sounds can be made from it.
