Totally Wind & Brass

led by Patrick Bailey

New to the National Festival, this workshop will bring together instrumentalists of all abilities to fill the Symphony Hall auditorium in a celebration of collective music making.

Immerse yourself in music with presenter Patrick Bailey, exploring ensemble techniques. Bring your instruments and get ready for a high-quality memorable experience!

Breaking Down Jazz

with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra

Come and join members of the National Youth Jazz Orchestra (NYJO) led by one of NYJO’s Associate Educator’s, Amy Baldwin, for a practical session, lifting the lid on improvisation. Play alongside some the UK’s most talented jazz musicians who will help you to learn a new piece from scratch and explore its harmonic possibilities – using just your ears!

Side by Side Workshop

with the Royal Marines Band Service

Join musicians from the Royal Marines Band Service in a typical Marine’s rehearsal. You will meet the pros, and play side by side for a joint rehearsal of light repertoire, providing a high quality musical experience and a shared sense of achievement. The Royal Marines Band Service is one of the finest military music organisations in the world, offering training to the highest standards including a fully funded BMus degree programme. Royal Marines Musicians travel the globe playing on some of the world’s biggest stages.

festival hub 3 - 6 July

New to this year’s National Festival, the MFY Festival Hub, located in Symphony Hall, will gather teachers, young musicians, their friends and families. As well as an exhibition space, the hub will be bustling with performances, Q&A sessions, digital sound games & more!
