MORNING BREAKOUT SESSION
a) Creating a Unique Ensemble with Joe Broughton
Learn how to unify the disparate stands of music-making taking place at your school/music centre and create a performance that is truly unique.
b) Feel the Music with Pete Churchill
Learn how stepping away from notation can liberate the young musicians you work with.
c) Your National Youth Orchestra
Do you lead young musicians? Discover what goes on behind the scenes at the NYO as a team of its players, tutors and staff invite you to share their approach in a session that engages in NYO’s innovative orchestral practice. See how the NYO’s approach works and put your questions to its team. They in turn will be asking you how they can help complement the experience you offer young musicians.
SINGPOSIUM SESSIONS
d) Making Mash Ups with National Youth Choir
Join the Staff, Young Leaders and Members of the National Youth Choirs in a session all about making mash-ups! Greg Beardsell & Dominic Peckham will be leading delegates in sessions on how to produce instant masterpieces which are fun, spontaneous and relevant to singers of all ages.
e) Singing from a New Perspective with Adey Grummett
Learn how traditional repertoire is rehearsed and explored from several different angles. Adey will turn you into a choir that can play with idiom, cross the so-called boundaries and take on nearly anything and turn it into something else.
f) Getting the Most from Your Choir with Suzi Digby
Suzi will show you how to find and develop your choir's individual strengths and help them to differentiate themselves from other singers. This will be a practical session that will provide you with a ‘tool kit’ of tricks, helping you to develop your sound and fine tune any problems you are facing.
1255–1335
PLAY REHEARSAL
Work with Tim Steiner on PLAY, his brand new composition for the Music for Youth season, commissioned by MFY and rockschool. PLAY is very flexible with a range of parts playable by any number and any combination of instruments and voices - bring your instrument or get ready to sing to take part in this mass performance.
