Metamorphosis / Freedom / Words

The Schools Prom Concert Series
10 - 12 November

Three distinctive concerts presenting a diverse range of repertoire with a rich palette of musical colour, injected with the freshness and energy of youth.

Monday 10 November - Metamorphosis - 7 PM
Inspired by Hindemith's 'Symphonic Metamorphosis', this concert explores the concept of change via the transformative power of music, with contemporary interpretations of traditional musical forms and cultural change through the eyes, ears and voices of young artists in our ever changing world.

Tuesday 11 November - Freedom - 7 PM
To mark the First World War Centenary, we take freedom as our theme, with a new commission for 500 performers drawing on the words of war poet Siegfried Sassoon, a study of form and freedom in jazz and musical commentaries on struggles for and celebrations of liberty and national pride.

Wednesday 12 November - Words - 7 PM
Tonight we celebrate the power of words. A specially commissioned poem precedes a quirky mix of music including extracts from 'the Book of Mormon', Renaissance polyphony, Kerry Andrew's setting of Benjamin Zephaniah's poetry for a massed ensemble, and new material from young singer songwriters.
