Below is a list of the different group types that take part in our events. When you enter we'll ask you to select what type of group you think you are. We may also ask you to describe your group in a bit more detail.

 

Brass Band
School
For brass bands involving musicians attending a single school.
Age limit: 18 years and under

Music Centre
For brass bands involving musicians attending a single music centre or local independent youth bands.
Age limit: 19 years and under

Open
For brass bands involving musicians from any source, e.g. county, district, school and independent bands of standard or near-standard instrumentation.
Age limit: 21 years and under

 

Chamber Music
For small ensembles. Chamber groups are un-conducted and have one player to a part.

Junior
Age limit: 13 years and under

Senior
Age limit: 21 years and under

 

Choir
For choirs and vocal ensembles from any source. Vocal content should represent the main part of the material (please ensure that there are a minimum of two voices per part) but performances involving instrumental accompaniment are welcomed.

Age limit: 13 years and under

Senior
Age limit: 21 years and under

 

Ensemble
For all types, combinations and collaborations of instrumental and vocal ensembles. Originality and imagination in choice of repertoire and presentation is encouraged.
Age limit: 21 years and under

 

Infant & Junior
For infant and junior groups from any source. We welcome all aspects of music-making and creative work, as well as multi-media presentations involving dance, movement, costumes and work devised in the classroom.
Age limit: 13 years and under

 

Jazz
School
For big bands and combos involving musicians attending a single school. Groups not working from written-out parts are especially encouraged.
Age limit: 18 years and under 

Music Centre
For big bands and combos involving musicians attending a single music centre. Improvising solos are particularly encouraged and jazz combos should present mostly their own arrangements or original material.
Age limit: 19 years and under

Open
For big bands and combos involving musicians from any source, e.g. county, district, school and independent bands. Improvising solos are particularly encouraged and jazz combos should present mostly their own arrangements or original material.
Age limit: 21 years and under

 

Orchestra
School
For orchestras involving musicians attending a single school.
Age limit: 18 years and under

Music Centre
For orchestras involving musicians attending a single music centre.
Age limit: 19 years and under

Open
For orchestras involving musicians from any source, e.g. county, district, school and independent orchestras.
Age limit: 21 years and under

 

Rock, Pop & Urban
For unsigned Rock, Pop and Urban music groups. Original compositions are especially welcome.
Age limit: 21 years and under

 

Traditional & International
For groups dedicated to the presentation of folk, roots and traditional music from a variety of cultures. Unusual instrumental combinations and up-to-date repertoire may be included.
Age limit: 21 years and under

 

Wind Band
School
For wind bands involving musicians attending a single school.
Age limit: 18 years and under

Music Centre
For wind bands involving musicians attending a single music centre or local independent youth bands.
Age limit: 19 years and under

Open
For wind bands involving musicians from any source, e.g. county, district, school and independent bands of standard or near-standard instrumentation.
