Our Regional Festivals are free to take part and welcome all abilities, types of group and all genres of music. We aim for each of our festivals to be: 

  • Representative 
  • Inclusive 
  • Interesting and Varied 
  • Supportive

When you register your group into the Regional Festival Series, we will ask you to choose a word or phrase from a list of group types that best describes your group. We will also ask you to describe your group in a brief paragraph. This is so we can understand what type of group you are. 
Below is the list of group type options:


Brass Band

School
For brass bands involving musicians attending a single school.

Music Centre
For brass bands involving musicians attending a single music centre or local independent youth bands.

Open
For brass bands involving musicians from any source, e.g. county, district, school and independent bands of standard or near-standard instrumentation.

 

Chamber Music

Chamber groups are un-conducted and have one player to a part. Often these groups are string quartets, wind dectets etc who play range of repertoire from classical to new arrangements for more contemporary music.

Junior
Age limit: 11 years and under

Senior
Age limit: 21 years and under

 

Choir

For choirs and vocal ensembles from any source. We welcome all genres of choirs – chamber, gospel, musical theatre, glee and pop choirs. Vocal content should represent the main part of the material (please ensure that there are a minimum of two voices per part) but performances involving instrumental accompaniment are welcomed.

Junior
Age limit: 11 years and under

Senior
Age limit: 21 years and under

 

Ensemble

For all types, combinations and collaborations of instrumental and vocal ensembles. Groups can be anything from a 20 strong clarinet ensemble, a junk percussion group to an Early Music Ensemble and everything else in between. Originality and imagination in choice of repertoire and presentation is encouraged.

 

Infant & Junior

For infant and junior groups from any source. We welcome all aspects of music-making and creative work, as well as multi-media presentations involving dance, movement, costumes and work devised in the classroom.

 

Jazz

School
For big bands and combos involving musicians attending a single school. Groups not working from written-out parts are especially encouraged.

Combo's & Ensembles
For smaller jazz ensembles, often having only one player to a part. Jazz combos should present mostly their own arrangements or original material and improvising solos are particularly encouraged.

Music Centre
For big bands involving musicians attending a single music centre. Improvising solos are particularly encouraged.

Open
For big bands and combos involving musicians from any source, e.g. county, district, school and independent bands. Improvising solos are particularly encouraged.

 

Orchestra

School
For orchestras involving musicians attending a single school.

Music Centre
For orchestras involving musicians attending a single music centre.

Open
For orchestras involving musicians from any source, e.g. county, district, school and independent orchestras.

 

Other

If you feel that none of the group types describe your group accurately, this is the one for you. Please make sure you provide us with a detailed group description so we can understand more about you.

 

Rock, Pop, Urban & Electronic

For unsigned Rock, Pop, Urban and Electronic music groups. Original compositions are especially welcome.

 

Wind Band

School
For wind bands involving musicians attending a single school.

Music Centre
For wind bands involving musicians attending a single music centre or local independent youth bands.

Open
For wind bands involving musicians from any source, e.g. county, district, school and independent bands of standard or near-standard instrumentation.

 

World, Folk and Roots

For groups dedicated to the presentation of world, folk and roots music from a variety of cultures. Unusual instrumental combinations and up-to-date repertoire may be included. Age limit: 21 years and under
