Friday Afternoons Workshop

Friday Afternoons is a nationwide singing project led by Aldeburgh Music, set up to celebrate the Britten Centenary in 2013. For 2014, a new set of songs has been commissioned from a wide mix of composers, inspired by folk songs from around the world.

This is an hour-long workshop exploring the Friday Afternoons songs. Workshops will be appropriate for any age group and will be tailored specifically to the ability of your group. The workshop will celebrate Britten’s songs whilst also bringing in a more contemporary twist, introducing modern day styles. No preparation needed!

All of these sessions would involve working with 2 or 3 of the new set of ‘Friday Afternoons’ songs – teaching them, singing them, playing around with them.

The sessions will be led by members of the Classical No. 1 and international award winning vocal group, VOCES8. The ensemble is passionate about education work, works with over 20,000 students a year and was delighted to work with Aldeburgh Music in 2013 to help share the Friday Afternoons songs with young singers across the UK. VOCES8 is now based at the Gresham Centre, a new centre for vocal excellence and outreach in the heart of the City of London.
