Nerija performing as part of their National Partnership Award experience.
Tomorrow's Warriors Development Group, Nerija joined Jazzlines Trio at Symphony Hall for a day of collaborative rehearsals and a performance at the Hall’s regular Jazzlines Free Gigs. Audiences enjoyed a set from each group with the gig ending in a collaborative performance sharing the achievements of the day’s rehearsal.
The day was part of a bespoke experience put together as part the MFY National Partnership Awards scheme. Nerija received the award in Jazz, sponsored by Town Hall Symphony Hall, following the group's performance at the MFY National Festival in 2013.
One young musicians from Nerija said:
"It was great to collaborate with our contemporaries, the Jazzlines Trio at Symphony Hall, Birmingham. We had a great time performing each other's compositions in front of a live audience and are grateful to Tomorrow's Warriors, Jazzlines and MFY for facilitating this opportunity."
Janine Irons of Tomorrow's Warriors said:
"We were delighted when Tomorrow's Warriors Development Group, Nerija were awarded the MFY Jazz Partnership Award… Tomorrow's Warriors exists to provide high quality development and performance opportunities for gifted and talented musicians from all backgrounds, though we have a primary focus on girls and young people from the African diaspora. Performing at Symphony Hall, Birmingham and collaborating with the Jazzlines Trio provided a great performance opportunity for our female group, enabling them to continue to develop as a band and hone their skills.
Philip Woods, Project Manager of Jazzlines Education said:
"The Jazzlines programme as part of Town Hall & Symphony Hall were delighted to enable this collaboration between these talented young musicians, the Jazzlines Trio and Nerija, who are part of the Tomorrow's Warriors jazz development programme based at Southbank Centre, London. Working alongside the THSH Education and Community Team, Jazzlines engages young people from diverse backgrounds across the city, supporting the progression of talented young jazz musicians from first access through to early career level as well as delivering an exciting programme of live jazz."
