Music for Youth’s Frequencies rounded off 2016 with events in Bristol, Manchester and Newcastle.

Nearly 100 young up and coming musicians from across the country took part in these whole day events featuring collaborative music workshops, industry networking, industry panel sessions and live performance opportunities.

So what is Frequencies?

To kick off the days, professional artists including Vocal Sculptor Jason Singh, champion beatboxer Hobbit, Session Guitarist John Evans, Trip Hop duo Paugwé and a whole host of others invite young people to share, rework and progress their music drawing on ideas and suggestions from the professionals and other musicians in the room.

Between sessions, attendees have the opportunity to network with a number of local and national music organisations including PRS, dBs Music, Brighter Sound, and many more.

"Frequencies is a fantastic collaborative experience, and a great place for everyone to showcase their skills. I'd definitely do it again!" Alex

"There's something for everyone, with different inspiration, that unique workshop experience and access to professionals with everyone making you feel like 'We want you here'" Mac   Frequencies 2016 image

Then there's the chance to hear from industry professionals. In Bristol Chris Cooke from CMU:DIY hosted the panel Industry Takeover: How to steal my job in partnership with Urban Development, while in Manchester young people had the chance to quiz the artists from the workshop about their different experiences making it as professional musicians.

"More eye-opening than I could have ever imagined." Sophie

To round off the days, a selection of acts are given the chance to perform with a full set-up on a professional stage to a live crowd, including our professional musicians and mentors. The mentors meet with each artist after their performance and offer them feedback and tips for development.

But it doesn't stop there. Off the back of a hugely successful 2016, Frequencies 2017 is set to be bigger and better than ever.
