Below is a list of the different group types that take part in our events:
Orchestra
School For orchestras involving musicians attending a single school. Age limit: 18 years and under
Music Centre For orchestras involving musicians attending a single music centre. Age limit: 19 years and under
Open For orchestras involving musicians from any source, e.g. county, district, school and independent orchestras. Age limit: 21 years and under
String and Chamber Orchestra (School) For string and chamber orchestras involving musicians attending a single school. Age limit: 18 years and under String and Chamber Orchestra (Open) For string and chamber orchestras involving musicians from any source e.g. county, district, school and independent orchestras. Age limit: 21 years and under
Choir
For choirs and vocal ensembles from any source e.g. county, district, school and independent choirs. Vocal content should represent the main part of the material (please ensure that there are a minimum of two voices per part) but performances involving instrumental accompaniment are welcomed.
Junior Age limit: 13 years and under
Senior Age limit: 21 years and under
Chamber Music For small ensembles. Chamber groups are un-conducted and have one player to a part. Junior Age limit: 13 years and under
Senior Age limit: 21 years and under
Brass Band School For brass bands involving musicians attending a single school. Age limit: 18 years and under
Music Centre For brass bands involving musicians attending a single music centre or local independent youth bands. Age limit: 19 years and under
Open For brass bands involving musicians from any source, e.g. county, district, school and independent bands of standard or near-standard instrumentation. Age limit: 21 years and under
Wind Band School For wind bands involving musicians attending a single school. Age limit: 18 years and under Music Centre For wind bands involving musicians attending a single music centre or local independent youth bands. Age limit: 19 years and under Open For wind bands involving musicians from any source, e.g. county, district, school and independent bands of standard or near-standard instrumentation. Age limit: 21 years and under Rock, Pop or Urban
Limited availability for attending a Rock, Pop and Urban Regional Festival. Please click here for more information. Otherwise entry by recorded video tape (VHS/DVD only).
For unsigned Rock, Pop and Urban music groups. Original compositions are especially welcome. Please send in a video or DVD recording of a recent performance. Please feel free to send in a CD as well if the recording quality is poor. Age limit: 21 years and under
Ensemble For all types, combinations and collaborations of instrumental and vocal ensembles. Originality and imagination in choice of repertoire and presentation is encouraged. Age limit: 21 years and under
Traditional or International
For groups dedicated to the presentation of folk, roots and traditional music from a variety of cultures. Unusual instrumental combinations and up-to-date repertoire may be included. Age limit: 21 years and under
Infant or Junior
Infants For all infant aged groups. We especially welcome multi-media presentations involving singing, speaking, movement, costumes and work devised in the classroom. Age limit: 8 years and under Juniors For all junior aged groups. We welcome all aspects of music-making, including orchestras, choirs, instrumental ensembles and creative work, as well as multi-media presentations involving dance, movement, costumes and work devised in the classroom. Age limit: 13 years and under
Jazz School For big bands and combos involving musicians attending a single school. Groups not working from written-out parts are especially encouraged. Age limit: 18 years and under
Music Centre For big bands and combos involving musicians attending a single music centre. Improvising solos are particularly encouraged and jazz combos should present mostly their own arrangements or original material. Age limit: 19 years and under
Open For big bands and combos involving musicians from any source, e.g. county, district, school and independent bands. Improvising solos are particularly encouraged and jazz combos should present mostly their own arrangements or original material. Age limit: 21 years and under
